Eyes wide, heartbroken
Small dog lost between the lines
I cannot save her

Glass-littered shoulder
My hand on her worried brow
Trying not to cry

Melodious horns
Will never replace the voice
Of my beagle friend

Your honking traffic
Crushed my Southern lady's heart
And drove right on by

Does your car miss you?
Dance around when you come back?
Lick your tears away?

Winter heart returns
Stinging eyes back on the road
Empty hands drive home
